Beechcraft Door Lock Cylinder - Potential Replacement Solution

Beech Door Lock Cylinder on Left and Potential Replacement  on Right

Has your Beech Bonanza, Baron or Travel Air door lock cylinder fallen apart leaving it's rearmost pieces fallen into the nether regions of the cabin door? Or does your lock cylinder no longer function properly?

Part #10 in the above parts catalog extract is the door lock cylinder. As amazing as it sounds, this nearly identical cylinder has been spotted at Home Depot in the door and cabinet hardware aisle under their PN: U-9941.

With proper A&P/IA approval, one could replace their ailing lock cylinder with this possible solution.

If you really need to rescue the pieces that fell into your inner cabin door, a very large and strong magnet can be used to catch the parts on the outside of the door and bring them up to an area where the human hand can retrieve them. A rag under the magnet is probably a good cosmetic idea.

HERE is a full blown article I wrote for ABS Magazine in November 2015 detailing my use of the Depot cylinder solution.
