I have been participating
in "Owner Assisted" annual inspections with my A&P/IA for over 20
years. This has enabled me to develop a higher level of understanding of
the inner workings of the systems within my airframe, engine and prop. A
side benefit of doing this has been achieving a more economical
ownership cost for my Beechcraft Baron.
When one considers that a
large portion of the time (and hence a significant labor $$$ component)
required to perform an annual inspection is the opening up and closing
up of the aircraft cowlings, inspection panels and removal of the seats,
there is a significant savings available to the owner if both they and
their A&P/IA are willing and able to participate in this method of
inspection.
Owner assisted annuals
are not for everyone, however, if one has the willingness, time and mechanical
ability to wield a phillips screwdriver and/or simple hand tools,
significant benefits in pilot knowledge and lower annual inspection
costs can be achieved.
It's no secret that
experienced and competent Beechcraft A&P/IAs willing to work with
owners on an "Owner Assisted" basis has been shrinking. My outstanding
A&P/IA is so full up with work that he is no longer accepting new
"patients".
CSOBeech.com is
pleased to launch this directory of A&P/IAs who have chosen to advertise
their availability for Beechcraft Owner Assisted annual inspections.
Aircraft Owners
If you're a Beechcraft
owner and have had good "Owner Assisted" annual experiences with your
A&P/IA that is worthy of your referral, please
his contact info and a pirep on your experience.

One of the requirements to receive an invitation to attend the ABS
Maintenance Academy is: "be employed full time in a fixed-based facility
that regularly maintains piston airplanes". While some fixed-based
shops have been known to allow Owner Assisted annuals it's been my
experience that most A&P/IA mechanics who perform Owner Assisted
annuals are independent operators and may not be associated with a
fixed-base shop.
